Emails

From: Evan Lahmer
To: Ryan Brodbeck
Subject: Baby Shower

Hey Ryan, I’m not going to be able to make it to the baby shower. It seems as though I have come down with the flu and went to the hospital and although I am feeling better I probably won’t be back in time to come to the shower. Sorry. Let me know if anything else happens sometime so I can come over, thanks.
Evan Lahmer

Mr. Jaynes,
Hi I am Evan Lahmer and I am asking for an extension on my paper. I have been in the hospital for quite a number of days and it seems that with all the work I am missing and with the days in the hospital and not being able to do much, I am not able to finish the paper that I had been working on before that. I should be able to get it done in the next day or two.
Thank you,
Evan Lahmer

In the first message I wrote a more laid back and not as formal of a letter because of the fact that I knew the person very well and I was his friend telling him that I would not be able to come as opposed to the more formal letter to Mr. Jaynes telling him of why I haven’t been in class and that I need an extension. This second letter is more serious and I would be following this up with the final paper which is a bigger deal than not going to a party. The reason I did this is because I feel a paper is much more important than going to a friend’s baby shower and it affected me much more than it would’ve affected my friend.

Eugene August Summary

August, a teacher of English and Chair of Humanities at the University of Dayton has been examining and researching sexism. This research has been directed towards men and how they have been a subject of generalizations. We find this article in Men's Studies: A Selected and Interdisciplinary Bibliography published in 1985. The main point that August is trying to convey is how language is used to break down and victimize men and their social standing as written in the preface of the article. August believes that the media and the educational aspects in life are teaching the wrong things by what kind of language is used to portray men and their role in society. Eugene uses the media in a big way to counterpoint his argument that men are being singled out by the way certain words are used. He first starts off by talking about how men are in domestic abuse cases and how forms of rape all lead back to women being the victims. In the definition of rape as stated by a college brochure, it says " rape is THE universal crime against all women." These kinds of statements fail to mention the other men in the world that are actually victims of rape. August also blames Gender Feminists for the type of generalizations that males are getting because they have the most influence over the media and the type of education each person is receiving about this issue. To go into this assumption by August he uses three types of anti-male language. These words are misandry, androphobia and patriarchy. All of these words are used as being on a woman's side of view and can relate back to hatred of men. August then concludes his argument by stating what could happen to the male when this hatred and stereotyping keep happening.

On page 9 of The Allyn & Bacon Guide to Writing, i found it interesting how there are forms of writing for this particular subject and don't fully understand what the distinctions between both of them are and how to use them.

On page 12 where the book talks about the subject matter and how a question is always raised to explain the reasoning for the thesis I found it interesting that one would have to answer a question to explain the paper that they are writing. I also found that there are many ways to present a problem to your audience.

On page 30 of chapter 2, I also found that students are being required to think and put different things together to make an opinion or to think critically. The professors are trying to make us look deeper into the material and make good judgments from those.

On page 35 I found the idea map. This caught my attention because I never thought i would be using these as much as I am in college right now. This strategy helps me a lot to put random facts and thoughts together to make a final paper or speech. This is a great tool to help students put together good productive statements and make more sense of what they are trying to relay to their audience.

The Israel Air Force

I believe that the air force in Israel is a great one that has to prepare for anything to happen. If the air force is not ready for a conflict then they will cease to be a nation any longer. This is why the air force is always ready to go into war and conflict at anytime. They also train harder because tensinons with Iran are getting tighter and they cannot afford to get into a conflict with them if they are in fact holding and manufacturing nuclear weapons. With the help of the Uniuted States, the Israelies can hope to keep peace within the Middle East and can hope that the Iran or any other neighbor they have will not attack them for any reason.
The training that they do is not voluntary but is madatory to be in the air force. they say that only one in forty go on to become a fighter pilot in the military and that they still practice dog fighting even though it has not been done since the sixties. These kind of trianing tactics are used to make them the most elite force in the Middle East and will still be used to keep them that way. If the Air force does come in contact with any other neighbor of theirs then you can count on them to take out the competition and not letting anybody stand in the way of them staying a country and keeping peace in the Middle East.

Virginia disasters

The latest outbreak of tornadoes in the United States came Monday in Virginia, where three reported twisters injured more than 200 people, cut powerto more than 1300 homes and damaged many homes, according to the Washington Post. The tornadoes reportedly touched down repeatedly, damaging land and homes in swaths that were many miles long.
According to the Associated Press, at least one of the tornadoes was estimated to have winds between 86 mph to 110 mph, making it an F1 or F2 tornado on the Fujita scale. The Suffolk Red Cross Chapter Disaster Relief Fund is accepting contributions (money, not clothes or other items).

Man Goes through a lot to get where he's at

Levell Ricks beat a lot of problems to make it to age 20. He beat lymphoma with chemotherapy to become cancer-free. He overcame his mother's death and other problems as a teen. But he couldn't beat a murder charge. Ricks was sentenced last week to 23 years to life in prison. The Mount Auburn man was convicted in February of murder, felonious assault and being a felon with a weapon. He shot Richard Oldham fives times on Mother's Day. Oldham, 30, of Evanston, was the father of three. Police found his body on the sidewalk. "Without my daddy, I feel lost," Oldham's son, Ricardo Dixon, 10, told Ricks on Thursday. "I want to know why you would take my daddy from us." "I didn't do it," Ricks said. A jury - and Oldham's family - said he did."When he reached for that gun, he knew what he was doing. He wasn't going hunting for no animals," Demetrius Stanton, Oldham's uncle, said Thursday. Ricks' attorney, John Issenmann, asked Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge John "Skip" West for leniency. "His behavior is the result of the way he's been raised," Issenmann said. When he killed Oldham, Ricks was on probation for robbery and aggravated robbery. Ricks' sister asked for mercy because their mother is dead and she only has her two brothers. Her other brother, Levar Ricks, 18, is in the Hamilton County Justice Center awaiting trial on a separate murder charge. Levar Ricks is accused of the March 7 fatal shooting of Israel Barton during a robbery. His case is next in court May 8.

Witnesses still missing

The search will continue today for two children reported missing over the weekend after they witnessed the fatal shooting of a 25 year-old woman, Cincinnati police said. A critical missing report was issued for Armisha Williams, 4, and Damerco Jones, 9, after Jackie Denise Evans was shot in the chest late Friday while walking home with her four children outside the Fay Apartments complex, police said. Evans' children - believed to be 6, 4, 3 and 8 months - are staying with their maternal grandmother, but two other children who witnessed the attack are missing. Witnesses told police those children were taken by a woman who is not their mother or guardian. Their apartment was empty, and police have not been able to contact their parents. No arrests have been made in Evans' slaying, police said this morning.

pizza theft

They came up with the idea to rob the Colerain Township pizza shop where she worked two weeks ago, Bessie Hawkins told police. She was supposed to leave the back door of the Papa John's on Springdale Road open. Richard Kief, her roommate, was to come in wearing a ski mask and demand cash from her, Hawkins said. Police say they pulled off the caper late Sunday. Now, Kief is in jail, Hawkins was released Monday. Kief, 33, a father of two from Hamilton, appeared in court Tuesday, accused of taking $743 from the pizzeria. Videotape showed Kief inside Papa John's, according to court documents. He was identified by the store's general manager, Amanda Breckel - who, as it happens, is Kief's sister. Hawkins was arrested about two hours after she reported the robbery on charges of felony theft and making false alarms. Kief surrendered Monday and was charged with theft and complicity to theft. He was ordered jailed on a $12,500 bond.

You Hold the Key: Teen Driving Program
By Evan Lahmer

In health class, Mr. Fleming is having his annual teen driving program to show his students that are about to get their licenses what could happen if you are reckless and don’t care about anything that is going on around you when you are driving. As a sophomore in his class, I had to attend this presentation which is given throughout the week concerning safety when driving. I had already received my license when this program was brought to my attention, but after watching it and listening to the speakers I realized that I need to pay a lot more attention to the road and avoid carelessness in the car. This program really does help show the kids how they can be safer while driving.
This year might have a new kind of impact on the kids because of the tragedy that happened last year, involving the Northwest students in the fatal car accident. Since some of the students knew the students who were killed, the program could make a very large impact on the way the students view driving. This class will show all kinds of different wrecks and ways to have avoided those wrecks. Speakers will come in who have lost a loved one in an accident, and will tell of not only how it affects them, but how something like that can affect everybody around you as well.
More on this story after the class takes place and after more information is found.

Three seperate police chases in one night.

At least two adults and one juvenile are under arrest this morning after three separate police pursuits, including one that ended with a suspect possibly swallowing a substance. Cincinnati firefighters were called to the scene of the 3:42 a.m. crash in Over-the-Rhine at McMicken Avenue and Dunlap Road after officers suspected someone in the vehicle swallowed contraband so police wouldn't find it, according to emergency police and fire communications. The suspect was taken to University Hospital, Cincinnati police said. Earlier today, Larry Anderson, 24, was apprehended in Springfield Township after leading police on a brief chase from westbound Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway to the 700 block of Homeside Avenue, according to Hamilton County emergency communication reports. Anderson crashed into a parked car on Homeside Avenue about 2:30 a.m. and was charged with resisting arrest, failure to comply with police, driving with a suspended license and multiple traffic violations, jail officials said. He is held this morning without bond at the county jail and scheduled to appear before a judge Friday morning. About the same time in Green Township, two men and a teenage girl were spotted breaking into cars in the 3300 block of Harmony Lane and someone called police, reports state. They fled the scene in suspected stolen vans, including one that slammed into a police cruiser, reports state.

They ordered two employees into the freezer. Then, they told a third employee to open the cash register. Crazy attacks

A West Chester man told a judge Tuesday how his daughter's ex-boyfriend burst through a door and terrorized him and his family with a butcher knife for about an hour last week. Terrence Candidate, 23, "was acting wildly and crazy," William H. Murray Jr. testified Tuesday in Butler County Area III Court. Candidate, whose bond was set at $2.85 million, was arrested on multiple charges stemming from the incident Thursday night at Murray's home on Birkdale Drive. Candidate would periodically calm down and then become agitated, Murray said. Candidate repeatedly threatened, "I'm gonna hurt y'all," Murray said, and also insisted that Murray and his family knew the reason for Candidate's tirade. But Murray said he couldn't think of any rational explanation for Candidate's behavior. Murray said he and Candidate got into a struggle. Murray ended up with knife wounds above his right eye and to the back of his head. The eye wound required 35 stitches, the head wound 12. "I was worried about my family, getting out of that house and the nightmare with him," Murray said. Murray was at home with his wife and two daughters. His son arrived later, and Candidate left soon afterward, Murray said. Police accuse Candidate of stealing a 2002 Kia Spectra that belongs to his ex-girlfriend, Sandra Osborne, court records say. After officers tracked that vehicle to Candidate's apartment complex on Lakeside Drive, Special Weapons and Tactics team officers captured Candidate on Friday. After Murray's testimony, Judge Robert Hendrickson found enough evidence to send the case to a Butler County grand jury. The grand jury can add, delete or change the charges against Candidate: aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, kidnapping, felonious assault and felony theft. Assistant Prosecutor Brad Burress said those charges carry a potential prison term of nearly 40 years if Candidate is convicted.

The Chinese and What they Really Stand For

After reading the article on the 2008 Olympic Games, I found that there are a lot of different things that China has been covering up from the rest of the world so that they will be able to have the Olympics. China is a country that has been devaluing people for many years and won’t let it stop. They keep torturing people so that they will confess to crimes that they didn’t commit. They keep killing helpless and innocent human beings because they aren’t doing exactly what the government of china want them to do. This genocide will keep going unless people bring it to the attention of others who are able to do something about it.
I have found other complaints about why china should not be able to host the Olympic Games in 2008. The subject of Darfur is a big deal today and has not been dealt with much. The Chinese republic has been trading with Sudan for oil and other things which has been aiding in the deaths of over 200,000 people in Darfur. The participants in the games are going to try to get everybody participating in the games to hold peaceful protests when they receive their medal. They say that instead of giving a speech on the achievements and other things of that nature they will speak about china and how it is killing people in Darfur and in their own country.
Of course there is another side of the story. Although it is posted by the Chinese, it still doesn’t tell of why they should have to games in the country other than because they have the resources and the people to make it happen. They also say that it will be one of the best sporting events in the world. This argument is not a strong one against everything else that has been brought against the Chinese republic.
After everything that I have heard and read about china and what they are doing to people I think that the Olympic games should be held in a country that is fair to all people and at least don’t attack their own civilians. The slogan for the Chinese Olympic games is “One World, One Dream” is a big contradiction to what china stands for and is not they way that humans should act to each other.

Delta: Upgrading and Improving

Delta announced that it will be providing food to the coach customers on flights of three or more hours. They say that the new EATS program will be giving not only the first class but the coach passengers as well the opportunity to choose from five entree options by celebrity chef Todd English. These meals are freshly made hummus with veggies; a chicken parmesan sandwich; a cheddar, turkey bacon and apple butter croissant; and a chicken bistro salad. The meals are priced between $4 and $9. they did a survey on this and found that passengers would rather pay for good food then not pay and have food that wasn't very good. Delta also announced that they will be providing more entertainment features such as music and videos games that the passenger can control themselves. All of the improvements should be done by June 1 of 2008.

Teacher Arrested for Porn

A Two-Rivers teacher was arrested yesterday on porn charges. James E. Chase, 69, was arrested at his Ludlow home after the Kenton County Police Department executed a search warrant there Monday morning. They found several computers with pictures of child pornography on them. Police say that they went into the home with a search warrant and that James was cooperating with them. Police say that they have no evidence that any Covington students are involved in the Pictures. The police also said that the investigation had been going on since November and that they are still looking in the computers for more evidence. Under Kentucky law, possession of more than one pornographic image involving a child can result in the distribution charge, because the accused can be presumed to intend to distribute it.
How sick of a Person does one have to be to have that kind of content on their computer? I really think that this man should be convicted of as much as he can be since this sort of thing is not right at all.

Ray Gun makes big changes in warfare

The new Ray Gun that the pentagon has been working on is said to be finished and able to put into action. The Gun is a harmless way to keep protesters and other people who aren't friendly away from the troops when they are in a situation to fire upon them or not. The gun looks nothing like a regular gun since it has a giant dish antenna and other features that are unfamiliar to us. It also shoots out a 100000 watt beam of light hitting anything in its path. What happens is the beam penetrates the skin just far enough to mess with the nerves and make it feel like it is putting scalding water on yourself. there are ways to protect yourself but if you use a mattress or something else to cover up then the soldiers will know that this person is not a friendly person. With over 11000 test done on actual people, they found that the average person can withstand about three seconds of the blast. The gun will be hard to put into Iraq next summer because it is so harmless and can be used for torture. the military is now afraid to do that since the prison camps incidents.

Outfittted in the lasalle apparel, these students jumped in the frigid water that just that morning had over an inch and a half of ice on top of the water. the students didn't do this only for the fun of it but they did this for charity for the special olympics. the students were, Joe Mauch, Elliott Ross, Rob Braun, PJ Roemer, and Mike Metz. They said that after they jumped in the water was so cold that they couldn't really breathe after they were trying to get out of the water. In all they said that it was good that they did this for charity and that they had some fun although they did go last.

School parent steals from school

A school parent is to appear in court today around nine in the morning for stealing money from the Withrow Boosters. Cincinnati police say she stole thousands of dollars from the school. Angela Harvey, 40, stole the amount of $6,286.89 from the Withrow Boosters by using a debit card to make personal purchases and other purchases that were not school related and was caught doing this from around july 2007 to december of 2007. The purchases were beyond her authority and were for personal needs stated by the court records. Why would a lady need to steal from her own kids' school. that is the lowest of the low for stealing. All she really was doing was stealing from the kids and the other parents from the school.

Fatal crash closes I-75

Late Monday night a one car accident closed I-75 from the Ohio river to Ezzard Charles drive. a woman who was driving erratically lost control while heading north while under the sixth street viaduct. the car went airborne and hit an embankment while ending up on its top on the sixth street ramp. the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. police closed I-75 on the Brent Spence bridge til late Monday. this is just another case of people not just women driving too fast and trying to make themselves seem like they are the only people on the road. people just need to slow down and make the right decisions and leave on time so that they aren't in a big hurry to go somewhere.

Mother senteced for letting boyfriend beat her son to death

A mother is charged in child endangering for letting her seven year old son be fatally beat to death by her boyfriend. this behavior has been going on for months and has lead to this fatal blow the other day. Latina Stallworth, is scheduled to appear in court today for this crime. thanks to her testimony, her boyfriend Fred Johnson was convicted of felonious murder earlier this month for the death that was committed in 2006. prosecutors said that Johnson hit Milton in the head delivering ultimately fatal blows to the young kid while he was teaching him how to read. This kind of behavior is stupid and it shows what kind of people they are. but it isn't all their fault since they don't know any better because that is how they were raised.
